The Gray Wolf expanded throughout much of the US historically, but a few hundred years ago, that range was lost, due to the hatred of wolves and the rapid wolf killing that was going on at that time.

Habitat
Gray Wolves are very adaptable, and can live in many different climates. They can live in deserts, tundras, forests, plains, mountains, or rocky areas. They tend to live where their prey is. The best place to truly experience and appreciate wolves is at Yellowstone National Park, where wolves thrive and the population grows steady.
